Fields: Number or Text? When you add a Field for the customer's phone number you may be tempted to add a Number Field. Indeed, there are many Number Formats (Currency, Percent, Decimals). But, a phone number is really a Text Field: it uses punctuation to separate the Area Code from the number. For example: (810) 555-1212, where (810) is the Area Code.
