4.2 Create and Manage PivotTables: Select the Active Field

Analysis: Active Field

Start with the simple tools: You can select any field and show additional data. The selected field is called the Active Field.

You can use the Active Field to Expand (show) or Collapse (hide) more details. Say you wanted to see who sold the Fruit and Veggie products.

Start by selecting a Field in the PivotChart Legend to access the Active Field options on the Analyze Ribbon.

 

2. Try it: Select a Field in the PivotChart

Click on the PivotChart Legend.

Click on a Field: Fruit and Veggies.

Memo to Self: Expanding or Collapsing a field is easy. Selecting the correct place on the PivotChart can be frustrating!

 

What should you look for?  When you select a Field, the Analysis Tools will display this field as well as any other that you have enhanced.

PivotChart Tools ->Analyze ->Active Field
