Merging Data

In our earlier merge example, we selected several adjacent cells that were blank, empty of data. What happens if you merge together several cells that have data?

Before You Begin: Enter sample data

In Cell C3 type: Bananas

In Cell D3 type: Apples

3. Try This: Merge Data

Select: Cells C3 and D3.

Go to Home-> Alignment.

Click on Merge and Center.

What Do You See? If several cells have data, Microsoft Excel will only keep the information from the first cell.

Please close this spreadsheet. You do not have to save it.

Memo to Self: The first cell is defined as the upper-left most cell in the spreadsheet.
