Formulas->Function Library->More Functions ->Statistical->CountA

Use CountA

What Do You See? You can use the Function Arguments form to "fill in the blanks" and write your equation. Just as the SUM, AVERAGE and COUNT Functions use a range of cells, you need to select the data for this equation, too.

2. Try it: Edit the Function Arguments

Your cursor should be in Value1.

Select Value1: Reach over to the spreadsheet that is behind the Function Arguments form and highlight (select) Cells A2:A4.

Click
OK to close the Function Arguments.

3. What Do You See Now?

The correct equation is:

=COUNTA(A2:A4)

What Else Do You See? When you click ENTER, there should be a count of 3, for the 3 last names in our data.

OK, Do This: Format the Number
Select Cell D10.
Go to
Home->Number->General.
