View the Text Pane
SmartArt has two parts: the Graphic and the Text Pane. The
Text Pane is the outline to the left of the SmartArt diagram. You
can Show or Hide the Text Pane if you wish.

Try This: View the Text Pane
Click
on the SmartArt diagram.
Go to SmartArt Tools ->Design.
Go to Create Graphic.
Select: Text Pane.
What Do You See? The Text Pane can be displayed or hidden.
What Else Do You See? When you close the Text Box look on the left side of the SmartArt
Diagram for a small set of arrows that you can use to Show the Text
Pane again.
