Layout Options

When you insert a picture, Microsoft Word displays a little Layout icon. By default, the picture is In Line with Text. It is part of the text. You can drag and drop it with the same mouse moves you use to move words.

Where Have You Seen This Before? Think of the Medieval prayer books that began the readings with a stylized and ornamented letter. Important days began with a red icon, hence the term "Red Letter Days."

You can change the Text Wrapping if you wish. There are three ways to do anything in Microsoft Word: Menu, Mouse and Keyboard. Here is the "mouse" option.

1. Try It: Edit the Layout Options

Click once on the picture to select it.

Go to Layout Options->With Text Wrapping.
Select: Tight.

2. What Do You See? There are two options:
Move with Text (Anchored to a line)
Fix Position on the page (Absolute Position)
Select: Move with text
Keep going...
