Paste Special: Transpose

The VLOOUP and HLOOKUP formulas work with Tables defined by Named Ranges. Sometimes, it would be easier to work with that data in Columns (VLOOKUP) rather than Rows (HLOOKUP), or vice versa. You can TRANSPOSE or pivot the Table.

1. Try This: Transpose the Table
Select a Named Range: Terms (I1:M2).
Go to Home->Copy.
Click on Cell N1.
Go to Home->Paste->Paste Special->Transpose.

2. What Do You See? The Terms Table will be pasted as Columns, not Rows.

OK, Summary Time
This lesson focused on how to find the right answer in a Lookup Table. The key to making the Lookup Formulas work is naming the Range. Our lesson also used the Lookup Table in a formula.

We investigated the Logical Formulas as well: IF, AND, OR, NOT and IFERROR.
